ZIPLINE BALANCED BOOMS
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
CAUTION:
DO NOT REMOVE THE SPRING ROD SHIPPING SUPPORT UNTIL FULL ASSEMBLY IS COMPLETED AND ALL COMPONENTS ARE INSTALLED ON THE BOOM. THIS DEVICE IS PAINTED RED. IF REMOVED PREMATURELY INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR FROM BOOM FLYING RAPIDLY UPWARD!
  1. Mount the pedestal assembly on the pallet base (optional) using the (4) 3/4-10x1.5 bolts, nuts and washers provided. If a pallet base is not used, mount the pedestal directly to a solid concrete floor. Use (4) 3/4” concrete anchors with washers, (not provided).

  2. Install the boom mast & spring retainer housing assembly into the mounted pedestal assembly. Coat the bottom pipe on the boom mast & spring retainer housing assembly with grease before putting into pedestal.

  3. Remove the friction control knob from top of mast.

  4. Install the boom arm assembly. Place the swivel “sail-fin” plate on the rear of boom arm between the two mounting plates on the top of the mast assembly. Install the main swivel pin. This consists of (1) 3/4-10x3.5 bolt, (3) flat washers and (1) lock nut. Place (2) of the flat washers under the head of the bolt and (1) under the locknut. Tighten the lock nut completely and then back the lock nut off 1 full turn.

  5. Attach the spring rod clevis to the clevis plate on the bottom of the boom arm assembly. Install the clevis swivel pin. This consists of (1) 3/4 -10x3.5 bolt, (4) flat washers and (1) lock nut. Place (2) of the flat washers under the head of the bolt and (2) under the lock nut. Tighten the lock nut completely and then back the lock nut off 2 turns.

  6. Re-install the friction control knob. Tighten completely.

  7. Install the feeder support head to the boom arm assembly using the (2) 3/8-16x1.0 bolts and washers provided.

  8. Install the control box mount assembly to the mast using the (4) 1/4-20x.75 bolts, nuts and washers provided. This can be placed in one of four positions on the sides of the mast or the two positions on the front of the mast if the CBM-2 unit is used.

  9. Install the flat conduit end brackets to the mast wire reel supports using the (4) 1/4-20x.75 bolts, nuts and washers provided.

  10. Install the appropriate wire feeder boom package. Boom packages are ordered by boom length. Refer to the installation instructions provide with the boom package.

  11. Once all the welding equipment is installed, pull down on the feeder end and test the amount of force acting on the boom. If the boom arm immediately springs back against the spring rod shipping support or if the feeder has already drooped downward without additional force, then the spring assembly must be rebalanced. See “Boom Balancing Instructions” sheet provided with these instructions. If the boom arm can be pulled down and it stays in place or slightly creeps upward the spring rod shipping support can now be removed. Place it on the provided holder on the mast top or in a handy location.

  12. Loosen the friction control knob until the desired boom balance is obtained. Again if the boom does not balance as desired, follow the provided boom balancing instructions. But only after reinstalling the spring rod shipping support.
